TCDC Ubon Ratchathani opens, launches ‘Festival Lab’ to boost creative tourism
The Creative Economy Agency (CEA), Ubon Ratchathani Municipality and Ubon Ratchathani University have officially opened the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) Ubon Ratchathani, a new creative hub aimed at connecting local culture, creativity and business to create new opportunities for the northeastern city.
The centre opened on 15 August under the theme “Pheung Kor Rang, Pheung Sang Mueang” (“Together, shaping and building the city”), welcoming residents, creative professionals, entrepreneurs, students and visitors to learn, experiment and develop new ideas.

CEA said the centre is part of its effort to expand creative infrastructure into the regions and turn local cultural assets into products, services and experiences that can generate economic value.
“Ubon Ratchathani’s strengths are not limited to its traditions and tourist attractions, but also include its people, local knowledge, food, handicrafts and stories,” said Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, an expert member of the CEA board.

A key initiative is “Festival Lab,” which brings together event organisers, designers, entrepreneurs, artists, communities and young people to experiment with new ideas for festivals and tourism.
The programme aims to combine art, technology and contemporary culture with local traditions to create new festival experiences and help local events reach national and international audiences.

TCDC Ubon Ratchathani includes a Resource Center, Creative Lab and Gallery, providing resources, exhibition and workshop spaces, as well as places for creative experimentation and networking.
Opening activities include a showcase inspired by Ubon Ratchathani’s famous candle festival, an Old Town walking route featuring street art and local businesses, and the Ubon, The Beautiful Paradox exhibition.

The centre is also presenting 13 products from 13 local businesses through the Isan Value Up Ubon Ratchathani Showcase, covering crafts, textiles, food, wellness products, home décor and tourism experiences.
TCDC Ubon Ratchathani is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30 to 19:00, and closed on Mondays. Admission is free.
